“Man can do what he wills, but he cannot will what he wants.”
I recently read this somewhere and I’m trying to contemplate the ways in which the meaning can be decoded. It took me a while, lots of reading, after coming across various views, I decided how I would perceive the meaning :
A man can do what he chooses ,but cannot choose his desires.
A man cannot choose his desires, but he can choose what he wants.
There are multiple desires that surround a human being. They can be both positive and negative. It’s our mind and heart that decides which side we are inclined towards.
Personally , I don’t know much about negative desires if they are anything that harms your body physically , but when it comes to mental, I think the traits or habits that affect you or others are the ones you need to work upon and about the positive desires , the ones you need to feed yourself with, should be limitless.
To quote , ” To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” A human being’s desires are endless and that’s how they should be , but with the choices they , as I have always said, define us , the person who we are.
As we grow older, desires become our dreams.
When you have a dream that you can’t let go of, trust your instincts and pursue it. But remember: Real dreams take work, they take patience, and sometimes they require you to dig down very deep. Be sure you’re willing to do that. The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.
It’s astonishing how the whole existence and actions of humankind can be defined in this quote. It makes me wonder ….
